I am a reporter, & also own a small ranch. This blog was started to give me the opportunity to express things I couldn't in print, especially on spiritual matters. In this way, I neither compromise my journalistic objectivity, nor step on any professional toes.

20060816 :::
The Novitiate returned from his Summer Holiday & will indeed be here--at least through Christmas. After that, he's going to Franciscan University in Steubanville, Ohio for graduate studies. He presented me with the gift of several sports-themed books, including one by Eliot Asinov, who wrote Eight Men Out; he bought them at a library book sale. I look forward to reading it, but not right now.
Was watching the Cubs-Astros game tonight, as The Rocket was Houston's starting pitcher, but wound up falling asleep during the contest. When I finally awoke, it was nearly 2am, & it was the 18th Innning. Woke up just in time to see the Cubs go ahead & win the game. The trouble is, am all wide awake now. The Cubs wound up using all 25 men on the team during the struggle, & will have to recall a pitcher from Triple A for their afternoon game today.
The Novitiate joined Artemis, Achilles, & I for the Feast of the Assumption Vigil Mass, & we went out for fast food afterword. Then, we went to the pet store, so that he could buy some crickets for his toad (& also so Artemis could look at the new arrivals).
Joy dropped in on me this afternoon: she & her husband have split up due to his inability to refrain from the nose candy habit. Unfortunately, this means I don't see her as much, as she now lives further away. She told me she's back in school & getting some help from her parents in looking after her kids. However, she won't be able to take RCIA this Fall as she's just so overwhealmed with everything going on right now.
Hope this moderate weather we've been enjoying continues.
